His work, The Citadel, was credited with inspiring the launch of Britain's National Health Service; other works were adapted to film and resulted in a long running BBC radio and television series. This title, The Keys to the Kingdom The book was made into a 1944 film starring Gregory Peck as Father Francis Chisholm and Vincent Price as Anselm "Angus" Mealey. This role earned Peck his first Oscar nomination for Best Actor. ; 8vo
